Life as Art

Quite often, these three words just pop into my head.

Like magic, I will see this phrase of simple words strung together.

Each time sparking a new curiosity.  A simple expression… “Life as Art”.

I am compelled to explore a deeper meaning, which started by considering how it applies in my own life.

As discussed in earlier posts, art has given me a deeper sense of connection to myself. It has offered me a way to connect with myself like nothing else.

For hours on end, I can get lost in curiosity and exploration.

Each inspired action pushes me further and opens my eyes to a new kind of creation, usually with an uncertain outcome.  That kind of unknown is thrilling.

Making art has plugged me into myself in an unplanned, unexpected way. It has instilled a different kind of confidence and knowing.

I cannot quite recall that feeling from anything else.

Can you relate?

Through the ups and downs of life, I have often struggled to stay connected to myself.

Consistently, I put the needs of others before my own, which can leave me depleted and unfulfilled.

Historically, my career has been a primary source of validation.

I am fortunate to do work I love and am passionate about, creating a different kind of art there. However, being a painter is vastly different.

It forces me to push beyond fear and limitation, to get more honest with myself and admit that I want more from this living experience. What a discovery to learn that I, myself, hold the keys to a deeper connection to myself.

Art usually doesn’t fit into a neat space. It is wonderfully messy and gloriously undefined, which is so cool.

It makes no demands of me and literally begins as a blank canvas waiting for my direction. My own input is the source of what becomes.

I find that kind of uncertainty fascinating. To make something from nothing is simply incredible!

Think about it…

In a broader context, each of us is a living example of art.

What we wear, the activities we engage in, what we post online, the passions we pursue, how we show up for our loved ones. It is all an art.

A beautiful dance that allows us to share our own kind of special with the world.

Each of us is a living, unique form of self-expression.

I believe that life as art is really the essential key to a more fulfilling life.

Imagine art as a place to:

  • discover your passion
  • let go of what’s holding you back
  • get inspired
  • contemplate deeper meanings
  • build connection
  • find empathy for others
  • strengthen relationships with yourself and others
  • explore the curious unknown
  • give back
  • find peace

Embracing your own kind of art, whatever it is, can serve as an opportunity to have a more expansive experience.

To push beyond self-imposed and outdated limitations.

It is a way to go within, and explore more of what sets your soul on fire.

Who doesn’t want more of that?

Simply put, I encourage each of you to make a declaration to make more of your own kind of art. The world, now more than ever, needs more goodness in it. We all play a role in that kind of creation.

Explore. Create. Share. Give Back. Be Authentically YOU!
